Councillor Lyn Fowler

EAST WARD AND MAYOR

I have lived in Newport for 29 years after moving here from Manchester. My husband is a Novaportian. My children all went to school in Newport and have settled in the town after initially travelling far and wide, and now all my grandchildren are  attending those same schools and the youngest attends a local nursery.

I work full time for British Gymnastics as their customer experience manager, usually based at Lilleshall but I have been working from home since March 2020 and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

The deputy mayor this year is Ian Perry, and Ian and I will work in partnership to do our best for the town.

The town council was very concerned during lockdown that Newport High Street came out of the pandemic as healthy as it went into it, so we created the Choose Newport campaign which has been a great success.

We continue with our efforts to make Newport a destination of choice, encouraging people from far and wide to shop here.

Festive message from the Mayor

This time of the year seems to have come around very quickly, and being at the end of 2021 has come as a surprise to me!

We are all dealing with a different way of living our lives and many are concerned not just with Covid and the issues that brings, but global warming , equality and diversity, storms battering the UK and many other issues which face us all today.

A number of the trials we face are out of our sphere of influence, which means that we must concentrate on what we can affect.

Newport Town Council are trying very hard to make the community one which we want to live in and be proud of.

We aim to focus on enhancing the towns amenities for us all to enjoy safely, during 2022.

Whether is on improvements on the canal, lighting in alleyways off the High Street, better CCTV coverage, speed indicator devices and more parking improvements, our aim is to concentrate all our efforts on areas we can have a positive influence on, for all the people who live in the town.

We are here to help and support our community so please do not hesitate to contact any of us if you feel we can help in any way.

All 12 Newport Town Councillors wish you all a contented and peaceful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
