Councillor Ian Perry
WEST WARD AND MAYOR
I was born in Birmingham in 1959 and although I moved to Newport in 1966 (just before the world cup), I am still a Birmingham City season ticket holder. I attended Newport Juniors and then Haberdashers’ Adams Grammar school, where I excelled at Maths and struggled with most other subjects.
I left school in 1975 and worked for Staffordshire County Council where I trained to be an accountant, however I left in 1979 before fully qualifying to pursue my dream of being a full-time stamp dealer. I am still doing this and have offices in Newport, where I have been joined by my wife Chris (who I married in 1984), my son Bob (who arrived in 1987) and Barnzey (who has worked for us since 2008).
I joined Newport Town Council as an independent in 2011 and I am proud to have been elected Mayor for municipal year 2022-23. I play in the pool leagues for the Kings Head, have the best collection of Newport postcards there is, do my family tree in a big way and occasionally find the time to go fishing and play golf (badly!).
