On the 2nd December 2022, the Team at Newport Guild Hall dressed up as Elves to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The Newport Town Council staff dressed as elves to raise money and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s is one of the most common causes of dementia, which is caused by different diseases that damage the brain. The symptoms get worse over time and include:
- memory loss
- confusion and needing help with daily tasks
- problems with language and understanding
- changes in behaviour.
Currently there are 850,000 people living with Dementia in the UK with numbers predicted to rise to one million by 2025 *
The funds received on Elf Day will help people effected by Dementia access vital advice, support and services.
£10 – provides the first conversation with one of our expert Dementia Advisers.
£15 – turns four ordinary citizens into superhero Dementia Friends!
£50 – means 312 people can access our helpful online community, Talking Point
Newport Town Council raised a fabulous £50 on Elf Day. Thank you.
Our support does not stop there…
Newport Town Council is proud to be a member of Newport Dementia Action Alliance, Shropshire, and is committed to help people affected by Dementia in our community.
A number of Councillors have already received training to become ‘Dementia Friends’ and in the New Year the team at Newport Town Council will also be receiving training. This will enable the team to provide support to individuals and their friends and family in order to access relevant Council Services more easily.
“This is a subject close to my heart and I know members of the Town Council have shared experiences of caring for someone with Dementia, that is why I am extremely supportive of anything we can do to help ourselves and our community manage this cruel disease”
