As Mayor, and on behalf of Members of Newport Town Council and the residents of Newport Shropshire, I wish to offer our warmest wishes to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth IIÂ for the forthcoming Platinum Jubilee year.
As part of the town councils wish to mark this historic occasion, they are creating a rose garden in Victoria Park. They will also be holding competitions for the younger children of the town to create a card to be sent to Her Majesty from the Town and for the youth to design a set of commemorative tiles to be placed within the town as a lasting memory of this wonderful occasion.
Working with St Nicolas church, the Reverend Merry Smith has kindly given permission for the church tower to be used for the lighting of a beacon and Harper Adams University have gifted the town a tree to plant as part of the Queens Green canopy initiative.
The council will be giving further details in due course on how individual Streets will be able to apply for a small grant should they wish to have a Street party as part of the âBig Lunchâ initiative.
