Grant Aid

The Town Council allocates various funding each year in the form of grants. Local Community groups are encouraged to take advantage of the available grant funding.

Applications are generally considered twice a year, February and September.

The primary aim of grant funding is to provide ‘Seed’ or ‘Crisis’ financial support. In essence this means that application by new groups or existing groups to undertake something new or a novel activity will be looked upon favourably, as will applications submitted to avoid a crisis. A crisis may be defined as something that could not have reasonably been foreseen and which is likely to put the future of the group in jeopardy.  Requests from regional and national charities are rarely considered appropriate for a Town Council grant.

The level of grant funding is generally, but not exclusively geared, to how many residents benefit.

All applications are reviewed by an officer of the Town Council and the Mayor, to ensure that they generally meet the seed and/or crisis funding criteria before being presented to the Full Town Council for consideration. Funding is obtained by the direct taxation (the precept) of residents of Newport and the Town Council will look favourably on those requests that have wider appeal.
