 View the excitement of the countdown to Christmas, Newport got its magic festive feel with the official switch on of the NEW decorative lights throughout the town on Friday 30th November 2018.

 Christmas Card Competition 

·       Newport Town Council ran its annual Christmas Card Competition, with over 300 Newport Children Entering!!!! The three judges had the very hard task to pick just one winner from each category,

The Winner were :

Over 3’s, Reception & Year one = Ruby Talbot from Newport Infants School

Years 2 & 3 = Marcy Fanneran from Newport Infants School

Years 4,5 & 6 and Overall Winner = Connie Upchurch from Newport Juniors School

Christmas Community Performance 

 The Community performance alongside Nova FM provided live entertainment on The Buttercross from 4pm leading up to switch on.This year we are aimed to provide a local community and family feel event with an opportunity for local schools and community groups to showcase their talents to Newport’s residents.

We had fantastic performances from Castle House School, Newport Infants, Moorfield Primary School, Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School, Dance Connection and Olivia Turner a pupil from Burton Borough School.








Christmas Procession 

A procession including Father Christmas traveled in a horse drawn carriage from the Guildhall to St Nicholas Church at 5.45pm. The switch on of the lights will take place at around 6:00pm and will be switched on by the overall Christmas Card Competition winner. This will be followed by a festive sing-a-long in the church accompanied by the Salvation Army.
